Sunday Songs for Melissa

Today I have a the Brazilian artist Pat C and two Cebu music staples Cattski and Coolie Dread and the Microphone Commanders. Bottom of the Big Store!
When someone suggests sleek, sexy, and urban music I think of Pat C. She mixes bossa nova with electronica to produce a sound that is distinct and rich. I first heard the song Pisca four years ago in Lucky Strike in Dunsan dong. The light vocals, the rhythm, and the totally cool one-note guitar solo makes urban chic no longer a cliche'. I especially like the way the two vocal lines create a touch of cacophony in the verses. Pisca is the third track on the Sunshine Suite.
Coolie Dread and the Microphone Commanders is the brain child of dancehall reggae artist James D'Lonsod. The band has gone through three or four line ups but James "Coolie Dread" has kept the music tight and the tunes coming. The album Water for Your Soul has a bunch of danceable tracks in true dancehall reggae style--think Yellowman eating sisig for an image. Track 5 Craven brings you an immediate hook. I have found that second graders like to sing the hook over and over.
Cattski Espina is Cebu's reigning local rock goddess. Her last album Sound Minds Speak Volumes really shows her development as a songwriter and producer. I love these two tracks off her last album, Blunder and Me. This is an album you can listen to over and over, and I have many times.
As always, you can see a list of the Sunday Songs.
