Singing Contest at the Mudfest in Boryeong

by Earl Email

This month on July 19th, I'll be participating in a singing contest at the Boryeong Mud Festival. The contest is really cool, the holy trinity of playing music: food and drink, hotel, and cash.

Follow up:

This is the Mudfest last year. Trisha Poole (far left) got me on this group trip to the Mudfest. I got listed as an Australian (Trisha is Australian and they just assumed). Then there is myself, Raisa, Mik Fanguy and James Knaack.

Each of the participants receives at least 300,000 won for participating in the contest. The prize money is 3 million, 2 million, and 1 million won for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

CMB in conjunction with MBC, is doing a little reality TV show with the participants and that's why they are paying us and putting us up in a nice hotel. My friends Van Walker, Dan Panozzo, and James Bordewick are also participating. CMB has also found two women from Uzbekistan, one of them a mere 15 years old, and an Indonesian duet.

The free hotel beachside is what I am all excited about. I went to the Mudfest last year and only spent a few hours since I was on a daytrip. I had some friends spend more time there and I was totally jealous. Hotel rooms skyrocket for this hugely popular festival and many expats pack 15 in to a room.

I'm too old for that. I am glad I got a private room.
