Harajuku Cafe

Harajuku Cafe is named for my old neighborhood in Japan.

Harajuku had almost everything--touches of old and new, screaming high school students, families, designers, hair salons (lots of hair salons), lots of international restaurants, and a fantastic number of cafes. It was in these cafes that my friends and I would talk for hours on end, at various times of the day and night, and get to know each other better.

After our families, I believe the time we spend on this world is all about our friends. Love is half hard wired--we really can't help ourselves when we fall in love. You can't choose your family (though freakish as my extended family is, I wouldn't trade any of them for the world.)

Friendship is the only true and lasting choice that is completely ours. When I am with my friends we talk about food, drink, movies, books, travel, music, and true love. These are the things we share, these are the things that propel us in the journey of our lives together.

Forage in Ojeoung-dong.

Found this great little food store in Ojeoung dong.

The owner speaks English and they are super helpful.

For those of you who don't know, some Western things are not easily found in Korean supermarkets. I had to buy some things in bulk but I did get them but some things didn't seem to be on the shelf.

Follow up:

I asked the woman if they had any marjoram and she was checking. Then she got on the phone and started calling. I interjected with "whole marjoram, please".

Ten minutes later someone showed up with case of whole marjoram. I bought one of them. Cool. Got some lumpfish caviar, too.

Foraging seems to be one of my big hobbies in a foreign country.
