About Earl

by Earl Email

I am a heretical Roman Catholic currently teaching at a small national university in Korea. I love TV, playing guitar, and cooking.

I have no children, much to the delight of child protection services everywhere and to the chagrin of my mother.

My first mid-life crisis took me to Asia 11 years ago. In that time I has lived in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, and once again Korea. In that time I have found my true musical voice, heard the voice of God (she whispers), loved and been loved many times, found and lost a wife, and lost most of my hair.

My second mid-life crisis has prompted him to get a djembe and take up drumming.

I don't mind my friends inviting themselves over for dinner and I miss my friends who live far away and can't invite themselves over for dinner.

On the web

My public photos are all held on my Picasa web album:

Google makes it easy to organize and upload your photos. Adobe has a fully functional photo organizer that works in conjunction with Photoshop but Picasa is a light consumer product that takes care of most of the fixes. I still have Stock photos and Photoshop but I don't open them as often as I open Picasa.

Community and chat/VoIP

You can find him on Facebook as "Frankie Fiveangels" and his Skype ID is "frankiefiveangels".

On computer gear

I've had problems with my computer because I built it and it was my first build. It's running well now since I bought some 800 MHz memory.

Anyhow I run a Intel Core 2 Duo chip, 2.4 GHz. I got this chip because it has a 4MB cache. I'll get a new video card before I go Quad.

Western Digital 320 GB hard drive, 7200 rpm. I should've bought half a terra at least. Live and learn

LG Lightscribe Superdrive. I love lightscribe, i don;t know why more people don;t use it. Granted the media is a bit more expensive but it looks cool.

Samsung 52x CD drive. I have the extra drive just for gaming.

A Zalman 9700 fan. Korea makes some great CPU fans.

An Diamond ATI X1600 Pro. I think I am going to upgrade this part. I need to go to a card that does HDYV and has two DVI ports because I want a TV and satellite. I miss TV.

On Guitars and drums

I play an old, circa 1980, Takamine 375SW. It has served me well but I think it is time to retire it. The top is a bit cracked and the pickup wasn't designed to last this long, I think. It has been cutting in and out and when I last played at the Cool Bar, it didn't function at all.

I play a Toca 12" djembe. A nice, mass produced starter drum. Really expensive in Korea, totally cheap in America--let's get the free trade agreement going, folks!
